Sweatshirt Reverse Applique

Time to get excited and learn a new technique! For this class we will be learning REVERSE applique. In traditional applique, the design is placed on top of the background fabric and sewn in place. But for REVERSE applique, the fabric is sewn BEHIND the background fabric (we will be using a sweatshirt of your choice), and the top fabric will eventually be cut/trimmed away, to reveal the fabric you have sewn behind it! You will NOT need your sewing machine for this class, we will use a BACK STITCH embroidery stitch to hand sew the applique fabric to the sweatshirt. We will however discuss how your sewing machine can be used when you get home, if you desire, to further lock down your design. I will include in your supplies list the optional materials needed in case you want to add hand sewn embroidery stitches to further embellish your design, or leave it simple and celebrate a finished product! Your choice!

Instructor: Shari Lentsch
Instructor Bio: Hi, my name is Shari and I’d like to say I’m threading life together one stitch at a time. Whether I’m quilting, sewing, weaving, embroidering, knitting, stringing beads, or working with silver, my hands are always busy turning simple materials into something meaningful and “my own”. I believe in the magic of making – where patience, creativity, and a little bit of whimsy come together in every piece. Like many of you, I learned sewing from my mom, quilting, baking bread and working with yarn from my grandmothers, how to use a welding torch from my dad, and science and math from my career in Microbiology. My current passions are turning quilts into coats, sweatshirts and vests, and trying to master the art of sourdough baking! Maybe I’ll bring a loaf to class
