Scalloped “KC” Raw Edge Applique on a T-shirt

Materials you need to bring:
· Your Sewing machine. Please ensure that it is in good working order. Be sure to bring extra needles (e.g., Universal needles size 12-16) and bobbins for your machine. Power cord and foot peddle. A knee lift is also helpful but is not required.
· Machine sewing thread (cotton or polyester, 40, 50, or 60 wgt). Since the thread will be used for both the quilting and the edge straight stitch stitching, you should bring a color that coordinates with your fabric colors.
· T-shirt (denser, less stretchy, t-shirts work better). It needs to be blank on the front. Side seams will make finding the center a little easier but is not a requirement. Recommendation: WASH AND DRY THE T-SHIRT BEFORE CLASS!
· Cotton fabrics. You will need sufficient cotton fabric to make 40-2 ½” squares. It will save time during class if you bring them already cut into 2 ½” squares. They can either be a mix of colors or maybe you want a design theme or fabrics of similar color. You should pick colors that go well together as the squares will be sewn into one rectangle patchwork piece prior to cutting out the “K and “C” letters.
· Fabric scissors
· Removable marker (to assist with placement of your letters on your t-shirt and to mark your stitch line on the edge of the “K” and “C” letters.
· Paper scissors
· Pins or quilting safety pins
· Iron and wool mat (or small ironing board)
· Non-stick pressing mat (or parchment paper)
· Cutting mat, rulers, and rotary cutter, if you still need to cut your 2 ½” squares
· 2 ½” fusible grid paper - can be purchased from the shop
· Pellon 101 fusible interfacing (for patchwork backing) - Can be purchased from the shop
Materials I will bring:
· “KC” template
· Scalloped edge scissors

| Instructor: | Shari Lentsch |
| Instructor Bio: | Hi! My name is Shari and I’d like to say I’m threading life together one stitch at a time. Whether I’m quilting, sewing, embroidering, knitting, weaving, stringing beads, or working with silver, my hands are always busy turning simple materials into something meaningful and ‘my own’. I believe in the magic of making things! Like many of you, I thank my parents and grandparents for sparking my desire to ‘make’, along with my science career which has helped with quilting math, reading patterns, and solving the mystery behind sourdough baking. I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your journey! |
