Denim Crossbody Upcycle with Michelle Elrod
This class is perfect for confident beginners and experienced sewists alike who want to give new life to old denim while making a practical everyday bag. Each project will be unique, full of personality, and eco-friendly too!
This recycled denim clutch/crossbody zippered bag measures approximately 9” by 11” and consists of strips of denim pieced at an angle across the front of the bag. The denim strips can be embellished using fancy machine stitches and the bag features a denim pocket on the back and the inside. Techniques being taught will be installing a zipper, embellishment using specialty stitches, boxing the bottom of the bag.
Supplies needed:

2 pieces of cotton batting or soft & stable foam measuring 10 “ by 12”

1/3 yd lining fabric

½ yard fusible interfacing (SF101 Pellon Shape Flex 101) recommended

12” handbag zipper. Recommend size #4.5 YKK

(3 ) ½ inch swivel hooks with ½ “ D rings (Hobby Lobby/Sewology)

Denim scraps (Michelle will bring some to share)

2-Jean pockets ( one for exterior, one for lining if desired)

Denim belt loops and tags

Sewing machine with walking foot, zipper foot

Scissors, rotary cutter, rulers
