Beginning Garment Sewing - Sunset Shift Dress



Join us to create the stylish and versatile Studio M Shift Dress, a modern wardrobe staple that's as comfortable as it is flattering. This relaxed, dart-free shift dress features clean lines, a comfortable fit, convenient inseam pockets, and a beautiful keyhole back opening with a tie closure for a polished finish.

Fabric

  • 2–3 yards of woven fabric (amount varies by size and fabric width; refer to the pattern envelope for exact requirements)
  • Recommended fabrics:
    • Linen

    • Rayon challis
    • Double gauze
    • Lightweight chambray

Notions

  • Matching all-purpose thread
  • Fabric marking tool (chalk, washable marker, etc.)

Before Class: Please prewash and press your fabric to prevent shrinkage and ensure accurate cutting.

Skill Details:
Requirements: Machine, standard accessories and owner’s manual, working projects, cotton fabric for projects, rotary cutter and ruler, thread and basic sewing supplies.
Instructor: Mary Bodney
Instructor Bio: Mary has been sewing for over 60 years and has made all of her clothes since she was in the 8th grade. For the past four years, she has taught beginner sewing, garment sewing, bag making, machine embroidery and various projects, including pillows, table toppers, placemats, and other home decor items. Mary is knowledgeable about all major brands of sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers, and cover stitch machines. Additionally, she has over 40 years of experience teaching in public high schools.
