In this class, you’ll use the Quilters Bliss Mahjong Game Mat pattern, designed by our very own Amy Pressly, to create a beautiful and functional mat for your Mahjong table. The finished mat provides a soft playing surface that helps reduce tile noise while adding a fun, personalized touch to your game.

Amy will walk you through the construction process, including assembling the center, adding the borders, layering and quilting your mat, and finishing it with binding. We’ll also add a simple non-slip feature to help keep your mat in place while you play.

Choose fabrics to coordinate with your Mahjong set, match your game room, or simply pick something that makes you happy! This is also a great project to make for your favorite Mahjong-playing friend.

Skill Level: Confident Beginner and Up
Students should be comfortable using their sewing machine and sewing an accurate ¼" seam.

Fabric

• Center: One 28" × 28" piece

• Inner Border: Fabric for 1½" strips

• Outer Border: Seven 2¾" × width-of-fabric strips

• Binding: Fabric for 2½" binding strips

• Backing: One 40½" × 40½" piece

• Batting: One 40½" × 40½" piece

• Non-Slip Shelf Liner: One 5" × 10" piece

Sewing Supplies

• Sewing machine in good working order

• ¼" presser foot

• Walking foot or preferred quilting foot

• Coordinating thread for piecing and quilting

• Bobbins

• Rotary cutter

• Acrylic ruler

• Small cutting mat, if desired

• Fabric scissors

• Pins and/or Wonder Clips

• Seam ripper

• Fabric marking tool

• Hand-sewing needle, if you prefer to finish your binding by hand

Before Class

Please arrive with your fabrics selected and ready to sew. If possible, complete the basic cutting listed in the pattern before class so we can spend more time sewing, quilting, and finishing your mat.
